I am an experienced software developer and consultant with a career in technology spanning almost 30 years. After starting out programming on IBM AS/400s, I quickly moved on to designing and writing a wide variety of systems in Java, working in the business integration, life and pensions, meteorology and defence sectors, picking up a multitude of programming languages, frameworks and technologies along the way.

Although I’m now retired and no longer a full-time software developer, my career experience now translates in lots of useful ways, supporting several small businesses and charities with their technology needs. Over the years I realised I had a bit of a reputation of being an IT geek, and was often asked by friends and neighbours for help with their technological issues. I decided that upon retirement, I would like to create the facility for everyone in the local community to have access to my help, and so the idea of Community IT was born, where I could give back to the community that I love.

When I’m not being a total geek, I enjoy gig rowing, driving my Citroën 2CV, learning about gardening from my partner Claire, baking sourdough bread and walking my dogs on the beach.
